Hey, I’m Dawn! Thanks for visiting, I’m so glad you’re here…

Authentic! Thats me!  I’m not perfect, but human, and I own a long history of life experience.

I am a mother to a son and 2 French Bulldogs, divorcee, breast cancer survivor, mid life crisis navigator, and one resilient human being!

Born and raised in rural Nova Scotia I understand the unique challenges that the East Coast presents, but I also know its raw beauty. The Atlantic Ocean and the sunsets over St. Mary’s Bay fills my soul! You can find me on summer days combing the beach for sea glass, enjoying clam bakes, and sitting quietly taking in the sights and sounds of the ocean.

I lived in Southern Alberta for 20+ years where I embraced the western culture from horsing around to experiencing what the beautiful Rocky Mountains had to offer. I had the privilege of raising my son there, and I feel truly blessed for the opportunities that province offered him.

I have returned to my home province of Nova Scotia and I look forward to giving back to my community.

Career

Early adulthood started with a 10 year nursing career caring for the elderly in which I specialized in dementia related disorders. I was blessed to care for those who are the backbone of our communities.

My 30’s embraced motherhood and a journey as a stay at home hockey mom and domestic diva!

My 40’s were interesting as I kicked breast cancers butt, divorced my childhood sweat heart, started 6 years of university, and moved to the big city. Could I write a book about change! Mid life turned my world upside down and allowed me to grow in ways that I didn’t know were possible. I am so excited to see what the second half of my life will bring, and it fills me up to have the opportunity to offer clients guidance through their own personal journey. I firmly believe that we have 2 choices: we can be a passenger on the wave of life and go where it takes us, or we can steer our own ship. How do you want to live your life?

Education

I graduated with distinction from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology followed by a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology. My masters degree involved extensive research focusing on Co Parenting Coaching in low conflict divorce using solution focused brief therapy. During my studies I enjoyed several years as a volunteer for Victim Services and gained experience and extensive training in many areas including domestic violence, Indigenous culture, trauma, and the Canadian Criminal Justice System. As well, I completed an internship at Calgary’s largest counselling agency which provided me with a vast array of clients and diverse experience.

Therapy

I am registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology as a Registered Psychologist and abide by a code of ethics which ensures that I maintain excellence in counselling practice and ongoing education and training. I take an integrative approach to therapy and I believe that every counselling journey is as unique as the clients themselves.
